The Universe is on my side this week.

Just a quick couple of updates today. I’ve been having several issues with Bluehost, and have been wanting to switch for some time now. Coincidentally, Holdfire (who I’d been planning to switch to anyway) was holding a contest for a year’s worth of free premium hosting, and Sarai won! Her package also includes free hosting for a friend, and she chose me <3 Couldn't have come at a better time, really.

I've also began a new project which I am super excited about. I've actually been meaning to do it for quite a while and just never got around to it. After noticing a distinct lack of quality Spanish blogs on the internet, I decided to create my own :D I figured it would accomplish several things; for one, it’d give me a chance to improve my writing skills and further my understanding of the language, and secondly I’d have something else to fiddle around with. I’m obsessed with Spanish culture, so this also gives me an opportunity to discuss my favorite music, films, stories and poetry, as well as more personal entries about myself. Check it out! If any of you own/know of any Spanish blogs, I’d love to trade links. Thanks!

Probably one of my favorite aspects of Expression Engine is the ability to create and maintain as many side projects as you want with one install. EE gives you the flexibility to create endless template groups, custom field groups, separate weblogs and custom category groups in which to do so. If I weren’t so lazy, I’d rewrite my URL to not include that index.php, to make for an even prettier setup. Maybe someday when I run out of other things to do. I should totally work for their PR department, I’m the number one EE fanboy.

Other than that, not much else has been happening. I’m still on the hunt for a stupid job, and I’m photographing everyday. It feels as though I grow more confident in my skills day by day, and I’m super excited to start booking some professional shoots. I’m very weary of ever shooting a wedding, though. Churches are hard to light, and I’d be terrified of ruining someone else’s dream day so perhaps a while down the road. I’d still love to do some event photography, and maybe a few portrait sittings! I love the process of it as much as I love the result, everything from doing the shoot to post processing, to sending the files off to the printhouse.

I think we’re all born with inherent things that just click with us (no pun intended), and photography is definitely my thing. I’ve always experimented with different means of creative expression, but there’s never been any one thing that I could imagine spending my life doing, or anything that gave me the drive/want/need to pursue.  I think I’m really lucky to have found my niche early on, so many people live there lives without doing the one thing that makes them happiest. The great thing about photography is that no matter how much you do it, and no matter how much you learn, there’s always more and it’s never tiresome or boring. There’s always some way to put your own spin on something that’s been photographed a million times already.

I’m rambling, but I just wanted to let you all know that I’ll be disappearing for a few days during the switch to Holdfire. Everything should be back up and running by Friday at the very latest, see you guys soon!
